The electronics and information industry refers to the production of equipment, hardware manufacturing, system integration, software development, and information processing related to electronic information products that utilize electronic and information technologies to achieve manufacturing, processing, transmission, or reception functions or purposes; a collection of operational processes, such as application services.
The electronics and information industry is a commonly used term in statistical analyses by the Ministry of Information Industry, the authoritative management department of the information technology industry. The electronics and information industry is specifically divided into investment products, consumer products, and component products. Due to the department's origins, the term "electronics industry" is sometimes used interchangeably with "electronics and information industry" in analyses. As of February 2009, the electronics and information industry has become a major pillar industry of China's national economy.
On September 1, 2015, the China Electronics Information Industry Association released the list of the top 100 enterprises in China's electronics and information industry in 2015. According to statistics, this year's top 100 electronics and information enterprises achieved a main business income of 2.3 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 13.3%; total profits reached 141.6 billion yuan, an increase of 18.6% year-on-year; and total assets reached 2.7 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 13.3%. The previous semester showed a 13.7% increase, indicating steady growth in company size and efficiency.
Another highlight is that the top 100 electronics enterprises actively promoted internationalization strategies, allocating resources to the global market, continuously improving their level of transnational operations, and significantly increasing their industry influence. According to statistics, this year's top 100 electronics enterprises completed a total export value of 519.5 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 13.6%, accounting for 10% of the entire industry.
